Last week, L.A. skateboarding brand Dusters California, hosted a private reception at Dwindle Distribution headquarters to honor the Doors’ legendary guitarist Robby Krieger. The opportunity to stand face-to-face with the originator of some of the most memorable licks in all of classic rock, provided an enticing incentive for attendees to battle snarling L.A. traffic on a clear Tuesday evening.
Those in attendance were treated to Krieger’s jovial attitude, stories of the Doors’ life in L.A. and all the P.B.R. they could double-fist. Some of the luckiest fans even received their own limited edition Krieger signed Duster’s skateboards.
The event brought out other L.A. icons, including KCRW’s Garth Trindad and skateboarding luminary, Rodney Mullen. Rodney spoke to ESPN and Skateboarder Magazine while interviewing Krieger, and discussing the significance of the Doors’ music within skateboarding’s histoory. In turn, Robby discussed the group’s deep involvement and admiration for skateboarding culture.
Brand manager Nano Nobrega discussed the natural progression of the collaboration. “The entire vibe of Dusters is a return back to the 60’s and 70’s vibe. In those days, music and skateboarding were facets of the burgeoning youth movement. We are honored to team up with such an iconic part of that movement.”
Krieger stated his appreciation for the events large turn-out and even spent some time showing his skate style to approving fans. All in all, it was simply a historic evening with one of the most important figures in rock’s history. Skateboarding, you’ve come a long way, baby!
