Ski Channel and Tennis Channel creator, Steve Bellamy, introduced his latest venture with the announcement of a third niche outlet, the Surf Channel. Intimately highlighting the world of surfing, the network postures to combine a sports channel, travel channel and lifestyle channel into one surf-centric delivery, taking viewers to the most remote and exotic destinations on the planet with top athlete personalities. Original programming, movies and contest coverage are expected to make up the the channel’s core content lineup. Scheduled to launch in September 2012, as an on-demand sports option, the channel aims to reach 20 million households via distribution deals through Comcast, Cox Communications, DirecTV, Dish, Filmon.com and a preferred channel partnership with YouTube. The Bungalow Santa Monica
The Bungalow opens its doors as a ‘Baja-California’ inspired beachfront hangout. Set on the seaside grounds of Santa Monica’s Fairmont Miramar Hotel, Bungalow introduces rustic interiors, open air patios, ocean view decks, and laid back game room, all designed to accomodate a surf minded lifestyle. Nike SB Sixth & Mill Opening Party
Marking the official debut of Nike Skateboarding’s newest Training Facility, Sixth & Mill opened it’s downtown Los Angeles doors on Friday night to welcome athletes, media partners and tastemakers alike. Timed to coincide with the launch of his latest pro model shoe, SB team rider Paul Rodriguez took MC responsibilities, introducing the space and unveiling the new P-Rod VI. With special performance by Atlanta rapper Killer Mike and a crowded open bar, the event went strong into the night as Nike and friends once again celebrated a successful activation. Located in LA’s industrial district, the converted S&M warehouse hosts a private skatepark, event space, showrooms, editing rooms, swimming pool, and lounge areas. Introduced in stride with the Venice Beach neighborhood’s popular ‘First Fridays,’ Solé Bicycles opened its doors to 500 select tastemakers at the grand opening event for the brand’s new So Cal showroom. The indoor/outdoor party greeted guests on arrival with hand painted bicycles (per Chad Muska and Mar) and a busy hosted bar. Inside, the showroom welcomed a pro line-up of DJ talent including Hot Mouth (Jon Peganto formerly the LARiots), Jam3s K3n3ddy and Bag Raiders, playing to the wall-to-wall crowd. Short and street. Over the past weekend, Neff Headwear and The Seventh Letter teamed up to present Sesame Street at LA’s Known Gallery, a 2-day-only art exhibit to benefit City of Hope’s Department of Pediatrics. Featuring 50 of the collective’s noteworthy street artists, the sold-out show included a broad mix of creative mediums from graffiti and tattoo art, to photography and abstract painting. Representing the creative evolution of a “Sesame Street” generation, the show was a one-of-a-kind take on the the iconic children’s TV show.
