Founded in 1969 by Aussie surfer Alan Green, Quiksilver has long since been a badge of honor for every generation of surfer to follow. Rooted in the free spirit of 70′s wave riding culture, the brand’s early styles represent what’s considered the glory days of surf fashion. Giving nod to the company’s long history and ongoing influence, Quiksilver has most recently partnered with American outfitter J.Crew to introduce it’s latest in brand collaborations, Quiksilver for J. Crew. A throwback to a time of hanging ten with slightly sun-faded styles, the 4 short collection features old-school design details including the original Quiksilver logo, two-snap closure, scalloped legs, classic fern prints and soft cotton/nylon washed fabric. Available at brick-and-mortar J. Crew locations and online here.
As Patagonia admits; there is no green wetsuit. With that said, there is no greener wetsuit out there than one from the Patagonia. New for this spring/summer is their latest design, the R1, catering to more temperate climates like SoCal. Generally known for their thicker, “heater” suits, this is right in-line with the Patagonia 3/2 that we’ve been waiting for. While the majority think of sun drenched beaches, boardshorts, and occasional reef-rash when we considering a multi-day surf trip, the flip can sometimes be surprising. Catching up with Quiksilver team riders Balaram Stack & Chase Wilson, it’s no shocker what prompted the 3-day trip to Tofino, B.C. Linking up with Chesterman Beach native, Raph Bruhwiler, the squad went super remote to find left hand point breaks, big chunky tubes and some secret spot Tofino rights. Check out the trip in gotsurf.ca’s new three and a half minute film ‘North,’ and consider the fact that it may be time to update your wetsuit quiver.GotSurf.ca
Round 2. GQ Menswear Designer of the Year nominee Rick Klotz and his surf-centric Warriors of Radness brand introduce a second wave of 2012 Spring apparel to compliment their initial PART 1 release. The label’s distinctly So-Cal-inspired collection pulls from surfing’s colorful past, walking the fine line between classic 80′s surf threads and current-day street wear. Falling right in-line with the first, Part 2 offers a full range of beach essentials including attention grabbing t-shirts, tanks, jackets, pants, pullovers, walkshorts and of course boardshorts. Constructed using vintage-esq cottons, denims and nylons the line could just as easily have come from your cool uncle’s attic as it could the rack of a high-end retailer. Check out the second half of the SP’12 line below and, as is becoming increasingly standard with WOR, don’t miss the stylishly classy presentation of boobies in the new ‘WOR Bikini Contest’ video.Warriors
