Surfer Magazine takes a look at the fast-paced balancing act 18 year old Curren Caples draws between surfing and skating. Named after the great Tom Curren, Caples must be breathing a sigh of relief that surfing felt so natural, maybe came with the name. Regardless it’s his skill set on a skateboard that’s truly thrust him into the spotlight. Going pro for Flip Skateboards and winning a gold medal in Skateboard Park at X Games Munich last year, the Ventura local talks about his Jekyll and Hyde lifestyle and how separate the two really are… set of course behind 3:14 of hammer-time action. Check it out above.
Out for his daily winter surf check Nantucket photographer and local surfer Jonathan Nimerfroh captured what can only be described as magical when he discovered the Atlantic swell had nearly frozen solid. Rolling in with an ever so slurpee-like apperance, Nimerfroh snapped shots of the waves in their remarkably dreamy form. Images above and more are available in print through the jump.

Expanding on the brand’s pre-existing surfboard range, Sitka introduces two pro models into it’s growing production lineup. Shaped to the exacting specifications of team riders Noah Cohen and Peter Devries, both custom designed sleds have been fine tuned to each surfer’s unique riding style. Developed for smaller and flatter days, Cohen’s “Hatchet” model rides two inches shorter and half an inch wider than a standard shortboard – allowing for added speed through the flats, with rails designed to handle steeper and more powerful wave faces. Created with contrasting specs, Dervie’s “Pocket Knife” model delivers a thinned out high performance shortboard – built for the aggressive airs, tubes and turns he’s become known for. Available direct at Sitka Flagship stores and for order at the same, both boards are offered in polyurethane ($599 CAD) or XTR epoxy ($699 CAD). Check out “Tricks of the Trade” parts I and II below for full video intros on each board.
