Eco-eyewear brand Vuerich B and Quiksilver have come together to produce a collaborative collection of 50 one-of-a-kind sunglasses. Redesigning Quik’s original ‘Griffin’ silhouette, each limited edition pair is hand crafted from a single broken skateboard deck, fitted with Carl Zeiss CR39 polarized lenses and individually numbered. Honoring the unique story behind each repurposed piece, delivery includes a polaroid photo of the original board, as well as a short history on the board’s original owner. Sales from the release help fund ongoing efforts by the Skateistan project, working to create skate programmes for children in developing countries. The Griffin Vuerich (£295) is available exclusively at Quiksilver UK.
Celebrating his victory at the 2012 Fiji Pro, 22-year sponsor Quiksilver poses the question “Is Kelly Slater the greatest athlete of all time?” Presented through a stylized Infographic below, the inquiring surf brand compares Slater to athletes from traditional sports who have made history, measuring their individual achievements head-to-head against KS11. Set against iconic champions including Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky and Muhammad Ali, Slater’s untouched stats seem to speak for themselves. Does all this go to say that Kelly Slater might very well be the greatest athlete who ever lived? His 11 world titles, 20-year competitive longevity, and straight-up “cool” factor definitely make for a compelling argument.Kelly Slater, Quiksilver
